Our iPads were booked by Blak Pearl for their charity gala dinner, held at the Intercontinental Hotel in London. The chosen charities for the night were the Clinton Foundation, and the Prince’s Trust.

100 iPads went around a star-studded audience, who included stars of stage, screen and music. Star of the night, of course, was the Clinton Foundation’s eponymous founder; President Bill Clinton. Introduced by Ruby Wax, President Clinton was a fine orator, and talked at length about the importance of looking after future generations across the globe. Eloquent and impassioned, he had the audience hanging on his every word.

The iPads ran the silent auction, and the assembled guests were quite at ease with their use; even celebrities could use them.

Our iPads were at Battersea Evolution on 15th November, for the annual CRN Channel Awards. This event celebrated the great and good in the IT Channel market.

A large event, 1700 guests and 340 iPads, it was adequately accommodated by the venue. It was certainly not a sober event in nature; some tables carried enough alcohol to power a drag racer!

The nominated charity on the night was McMillan Cancer, and their message featured prominently on the the iPads. The silent auction, consisting of a myriad of memorabilia and experiences, was run using our iPads, and proved popular as always it does.

Entertainment on the night was provided by Ed Byrne, one of the stars of Mock the Week, and a fine comedian in his own right. Not only did he present the awards, but he treated the audience to a hilarious post-watershed stand-up show.

More images from the night can be seen on our facebook page.

Stoke City held their annual Chairman’s Charity Ball at their new-ish home, the Britannia Stadium on Friday 9th November. Whereas on previous occasions, one particular charity had been the beneficiary of the event; this year, Chairman Peter Coates decided to split the money between a number of local community projects.

We took our iPads, and a number of auction items with a mostly sporty theme, to help the club raise money using our iPad software.

None of the players attended the Ball; they were preparing for what turned out to be a successful Premier League match against Queen’s Park Rangers the following day, but “They Think It’s All Over” presenter Nick Hancock, perhaps the Potters’ most famous supporter, added his own glamour of sorts. He certainly took an interest in the iPads and the auction items.

Our Event Manager, Charlie, very bravely took to the stage to demonstrate the iPad auction to the guests. She did a great job, despite the close attention of the cameraman, there to capture the iPad screen.

The evening was a great success and Stoke City’s Della Birchall emailed us to say:

“I would like to take this opportunity to say how my faith has been restored in silent auctions, your staff were fantastic, never mithered and were most respectful to everyone. Special thanks have to go to Charlie, she was great.

I will certainly use you again.”

The Old Bailey or, to give it its correct title, the Royal Courts of Justice, was the unusual setting for The Venture Partnership Foundation’s Evening at the Venetian Carnival.

The guests, most of whom from the financial services sector, enjoyed a fun evening with entertainment provided by an Abba tribute band. The table décor provided a continental café atmosphere, quite at odds with the opulent splendour of the gothic architecture that, during the day, is full of Judges, QCs and defendants. None of the latter were in the cells, at least as far as we could tell.

Our iPads were there to run the silent auction, and they certainly proved popular with the guests, as the bids started pouring in for the ten small charities who were the beneficiaries of the night’s proceeds. If none of the auction items were of interest to a guest, the iPads offered the option of making a pledge to the charities instead. In the end, our iPads helped raise over £50,000.

Manchester’s The Monastery was the gothic setting for the Halloween Spooktacular; a fund raising event for the One Goal Foundation and other South Africa charities. The One Goal Foundation is the brainchild of self-confessed WAG Chantelle Tagoe, who visited South Africa in 2010 accompanying fiancé Emile Heskey at the World Cup Finals. She was moved by the poverty she saw there, and set up the charity on her return. Our iPads were booked to help with the evening’s silent auction.

The costumery and make-up on show were quite stunning, and it was quite unusual to see our iPads in the hands of, among others, skeletons, Captain America, The Black Swan, and even Tim Burton’s Jack o’ Lantern.

The spookily-clad guests enjoyed a performance from a fine covers band, and never was the Monster Mash song so appropriate to an audience; one that included two members of Atomic Kitten and Republic of Ireland footballer Stephen Ireland. The highlight of the show was a guest appearance by rapper Labrinth, whose appearance filled the dance floor and got the event buzzing. Jack o’ Lantern partied like it was 1899.

Chantelle emailed us to say:

“Working with Bidtech was brilliant!

The use of the iPads just brought that extra bit of ‘Wow factor’ to my event. They looked fantastic and the design team captured exactly what I asked for.

The staff were extremely professional and just having them there allowed me to be able to enjoy the evening with total peace of mind.

I would definitely recommend Bidtech to everyone.”

Lancashire Cricket Club was the venue for the Christie Charity Ball; a glittering event that saw our iPads help the charity raise nearly £110,000.

A star-studded guestlist was entertained by talent show finalists Marcus Collins (The X Factor) and Jaz Ellington (The Voice), not to mention the combined voices of the Manchester Choir. The trapeze artists Trio Silks performed some breathtaking routines overhead, and gave the event a certain je ne sais quoi not found at every event, it has to be said.

The iPads proved very popular with the bidders, as is usually the case, and they certainly didn’t disappoint this time. A delighted Rachel Robinson Boggas, the charity’s Head of Special Events said “A big thank you to Bidtech for their help and support at our recent Christie Charity Ball. The event raised an astonishing £109,000, and the iPads most certainly made a strong contribution to this, with the silent auction figures surpassing what we had expected and hoped for. A highly recommended fundraising tool and service as a whole”.

Stars of sound and ‘Strictly’ were out to entertain at a glittering charity ball held at the elegant Grosvenor House Hotel, London. Marks and Spencer’s chosen charities, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Grocery Aid, and MacMillan Cancer Support were the beneficiaries on the night, as our iPads sparked some enthusiastic bidding on a diverse collection of auction items. By the end of the night, the iPads had raised over £35,000 for the good causes.

The guests were entertained by the vocal talents of Alison Moyet, and Billy Ocean, and stars of Strictly Come Dancing Anton du Beke, James and Ola put on a fabulous display of fancy footwork. Ola, in a glittering gold catsuit, certainly turned a few heads! Former Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox provided some comedy moments at the Awards Ceremony. A great time was had by all in what was a lively and, for the charities, profitable evening.

Such a glamorous occasion was always going to be a good opportunity for the evening’s charity, UNICEF, and it certainly didn’t disappoint, as the iPads raked in the cash to the tune of over £100,000.
Present were some illustrious names from England and County cricket history; Michael Vaughan, naturally, as patron of the charity, former England opening batsman Sir Geoff Boycott, former Middlesex and Durham cricketer and now cricket journalist Simon Hughes, former England batsman, England coach and now Sky Sports commentator David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd, and former England all-rounder Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff. The visitors ran out winners; no surprise given the caliber of the team, but it was the charity that claimed the spoils in the end.

The sportsman’s dinner saw some enthusiatic bidding on items such as a Tour de France yellow jersey signed by Bradley Wiggins, and a photo montage signed by Usain Bolt, hit for six on the night, as the local charity went on to score a winning total.
